Funding MSc in London - UK Student

Have offers from LSE, KCL and a few US uni's for a Masters in International Relations. Received scholarship offers from US ones, but LSE is my 1st preference and tuition fees are so high - £26,232 for my course!

SFE only gives loans of up to £11,836 (for tuition and maintenance). I'm from a low-income family (but didn't get LSE's needs-based Graduate Support Scheme) and don't have much in savings to fund the shortfall (I'm going straight from undergrad to post-grad studies). I can work part-time while I study to fund my living costs, but struggling to source the remainder of the money for tuition fees.

Just wondering how other LSE post-grads have done this in the past, as surely others in a similar position have managed this. I'm applying to any external scholarships I can find but have noticed the funding cap is quite low and non-DEI domestic UK students aren't often eligible for them.

Any advice much appreciated.

- You can find a job that pays more (however, be compliant with employment laws, of course)

- educational loan

- you can explain this to the school and ask them for directions

- are there any scholarships in your home country for intl. students?

- While LSE is a good school, there are also other schools at lower fees

- Any family members willing to help out?

Thanks for the response. Looking like a non-SFE loan is the best option atm and hopefully the rate won't be too high. I've reached out to LSE's Funding Support Office, but haven't had a reply yet and I doubt they'll overturn their Graduate Support Scheme decision. And I'm a UK student in the UK, so struggling to find scholarships that I'm eligible for - seems like there's plenty for international students in the UK though. As I said I'm from a low-income family, so wouldn't really want to ask them to help out unless absolutely necessary.

Mix of UK Gov Loan + loans from domestic banks + savings from internships. from experience, working part-time will be tough especially during exam periods though the LSE itself offers student jobs with flexible working schedules. do not underestimate the living costs in London (rents food etc). financing is always tricky but once you get the degree it is worth the struggle.

Maybe look into deferring for a year. What I done was work for a year, save up my internship money and worked alongside my MFin which allowed me to afford the 36k masters without loans from anywhere. I’m really against taking out loans and really only do it if you have to and keep it as little as you possibly can. Deferring for a year won’t be the end of the world for you.
