Gambling Made my Life Great

I'd never been a gambler until my mid-20s. I just didn't believe in it. Then I met poker. Or precisely a Catholic priest and two seminarians taught me the game. Others in the community would play and I would crush everyone. They told me "don't go out to the casinos and online poker sites." So I went to the casinos and online poker sites.

Then I discovered Twitch and Discord, two staples of the poker community. I developed deep roots with many rec players and a lot of pro players. Some people don't get it when I say I love poker, but it is the game, the community, the competition, the psychology of it and that burning desire to make $10M in a day.

I'm trying to make it to the $60M-$70M Bahamas tourney this December and then am moving to Europe after that tourney for 2.5 months. I think I generally play better live, but I don't live near casinos, so have to mainly practice online, which sometimes has bigger guarantees.

In short, I've made lifelong friends in a sport that is just deep as fuck. Different levels of thinking in different games. The whole thing is one big mind-fuck solve the puzzle decipher some tells and you're set.

Curious about poker and been meaning to learn - HFs treat it like a live test of probabilistic thinking! Any guidance on which Discord channels to go for within NAM? Isaiah_53_5 💎🙌💎🙌💎

The world’s low-key falling apart - might as well level up my odds and gamble those student loan premiums away!

Moving to Europe congrats! Are you still in school though?

We have a mandatory study abroad next spring for my school. Should be awesome.

The jump from crushing local games to hitting the $60M-$70M tournament circuit in the Bahamas is massive.

Practicing online for the guarantees makes sense, but there really is no substitute for that live 'mind-fuck' of reading tells in person. Europe should be an amazing experience after that.

Yeah I've played a bit live at:

  • Harrah's Cherokee, NC
  • BestBet, FL
  • Hard Rock Hollywood, FL
  • Borgata, NJ
  • Golden Nugget, NJ
  • Hollywood Casino, MO
  • Beau Rivage, MS
  • Venetian - Vegas
  • Wynn - Vegas
  • Crown Casino, Melbourne, Australia

My biggest live tourney was a $2M GTD at the Wynn for $1300 buy in. As for online tourneys, I've played a mix of the biggest tourneys on ACR up to $12M GTD for a $2,650 buy in.

Another aspect of playing live tourneys that is essential is final table negotiations. Every time someone gets KOed on the FT, everyone votes on a deal and it has to be unanimous for a deal or against it. People get heated live negotiating and in Beau Rivage one guy said he was going to throw a chair at me after he seemed to get screwed in the deal. You know what I said when he threatened to throw a chair? "go ahead dude." Made him even more pissed and tournament director came running over to ease the tension.

In December, there are satties running for $25K Bahamas seats ($30K package) for $1,050 and satties to the $1,050 for $95. Last year I got one $95 to $1050 satty and played the $1050 six times with no avail. The reason I like the Bahamas tourney so much is that it is when I am free and 1st is so much. I'm not free to play this summer, I have to work.

Poker is the funnest shit ever for me. I love it. I'm looking forward to the journey and development of me as a player.

I think that in poker everyone ends up playing based on probabilities so at some point it becomes very mechanical in assessing likelihoods, sizing bets, and making the move. Or is there more to it?
