Girls think tech is unsexy and dorky while finance is sexy

Was talking to my friends in NYC & SF who work in both finance & tech about this. If a guy tells a girl he works at Google, she's not impressed. Oh look, another dorky tech bro who writes code. But working at say Apollo, Blackstone, KKR, Viking, Hellman & Friedman, Citadel? Super sexy because of its connation with making lot of money and being a confident ALPHA male.

This is true, but not for the reasons you state. In my observation, most guys (and girls) working in finance are just better put together: better dressed, better groomed, more social, more well spoken, more athletic, and more disciplined / willing to sacrifice. There's a reason there are so many former D1 athletes in finance. I guess it also helps our jobs require few tangible skills.

In contrast, many of my tech friends (including at Google, Apple), just don't get it. They watch anime. They wake up at 10am. They're 10 minutes late all the time. They don't bench as much. They watch anime. Look, I'm not saying it's bad; it's just that their careers self-select for different things (e.g., someone who can grind Leetcode and watches anime - f*ck that shit)

As for what your friend said specifically, if a girl knows KKR by name, that's red flag #1. If that's a big deal for them, that's red flag #2. I was sentenced to a brief bout of SF, and the women there weren't super scrupled.

Anime is nice and so is waking up after 10. I refuse to wake up before 8AM ever no matter what, that is slavery (I wrote this at 4AM).

It’s funny asl how perceptions differ. Finance often gets that “sexy” label because of the money and the high-pressure environment, which can make it seem more appealing. Tech, on the other hand, sometimes gets seen as dorky because of the coding stereotype. But things are shifting—people are starting to see the impact of tech and the cool stuff happening in that space. Ultimately, it’s all about how you present what you do. Confidence and passion can make any job sound attractive!

You haven't met many engineers have you. Stereotypes exist for a reason!

Idk man, a lot of the girls I went to college with would automatically assume you were a douchey “chad” if you were a finance major. Works with some, but also a big turn off for a lot of others

I think you should want to avoid girls who think like that because it is stupid and shallow and lacks nuance. Also I don't really know what you're talking about because other than the small pool of women who do think like that, the trend with most women is generally to hate on finance guys, because a lot of you mfs just talk about work and other boring shit they dont care about while on dates with some of these girls. They know you have money and will take them to a nice overpriced spot but the general perception is still that we're nerds. From what I've seen, girls generally think you're smart if you work at Google (among techbros nobody thinks this though) and tend to not have heard of any of those firms. I would even say it's a bit of a red flag if they have cuz it suggests they are looking for something in particular. I say all this as a well dressed well groomed finance guy btw who can bench 1.5x bodyweight.
