Hawthorne's "The Birthmark"
Would recommend giving this a read- for those that have not yet had the pleasure it is a story of humanity's lust for perfection and the detrimental effects this has on our long-term happiness. It's like 10 pages so just shut up and read it.
P.S. Hawthorne writes this tale beautifully and with an eloquence that is long forgotten in today's literature.
