Need to fly into NYC in a few weeks. Looking to stay in a nice hotel but I don't wanna stay in a boring room. Does anyone know of any under-the-radar nice hotels? Preferably near east Midtown but it doesn't really matter. Doesn't matter if it's more historical or modern, I'm just looking for somewhere unique to stay for 3 nights.

The Freehand near flat iron / gramercy is good
The Algonquin on 44th is solid. Next to Sofitel, which I've never stayed at, but I hear is cool too.
Both Edition Times Square and St. Regis are awesome but definitely did not find them to be under-the-radar and are super expensive.
Think the edition shut down. It had that one rooftop restaurant which wasn't bad but was super sceney and celeb-filled unfortunately but the bartender was amazing.
It did previously, but it reopened June 2021. When I stayed there, it had literally been open for literally under a month. They hadn't even finished the lobby. Beautiful rooftop place. Never enjoy being around celebs tho either, so understand not loving it
The Lombardy is on E 56th and I thought it was very charming. Room was quite spacious and you're in the heart of Midtown.
The Beekman...very nice unique interior though location is not great since it's far downtown
