Honeymoon in Argentina
Planning my honeymoon (1-2 weeks) in Argentina and looking for any suggestions or guidance: time of the year (we are somewhat flexible), places to visit / eat / see, things to do / watch out for, etc.
Anything helps. Thank you!
Bump. Congrats on the wedding!
I would imagine Bariloche would be a good wedding destination.
If it were me, I'd combine that with a trip down to El Chalten, and consider crossing the border to Torres del Paine. That might be a little ambitious for two weeks.
•Wine tasting in Mendoza
•Hiking in Patagonia
•Doing a cruise to Antarctica just for the heck of saying you’ve been there
•visit a German village
going in the fall/winter is a good time
Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata
DELETE -URUGUAY
Yeah Punte del Este is fun.
Horseriding in the Pampa. Take a guide and just get out there for 2 weeks.
I did mine.
Note - my wife and I are both quite outdoorsy so we skipped Punta
4 days minimum BA - stay in the Four Seasons or Park Hyatt
skip Bariloche
go to the Glaciers, stay at the Explora property
if you can swing it, spend a few days in the Explora property in Torres del Paine
either a ranch in the Pampas or wine tasting in Mendoza
incresible country
Noted, thank you!
I was just in Argentina several months ago. I spent all of my time - six or seven days - in Buenos Aires. Argentina is an amazing place and much different than most other Latin American countries. If you stay in BA make sure to find a hotel or AirB&B in Palermo, specifically Palermo Soho / Palermo Hollywood. It is the trendiest part of town with all the best restaurants and shopping. My favorites in BA, which were recommended by an Argentinian B-school classmate, were Don Julio's, Anchoita, Pizzeria Guerrin, Presidente Bar, Peron Peron, and Cafe London. The most important thing you need to do is to bring new, crisp US dollars into the country - fifty and one hundred dollar bills are best and will result in the best exchange rate. Argentina has had strict capital controls for a decade, so you are able to exchange your money safely and easily through unofficial exchanges on street corners for more than double the official bank/ATM exchange rate. It makes shopping and dining extremely affordable. However, do not exchange more money than you will spend because those pesos will be worthless outside of Argentina. Finally, congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon!
Now we are talking. I heard about the currency exchange controls and all of that makes a lot of sense, so thank you for the leads! I’m pumped to put the trip together
Calle Florida. Take a walk down the street and you’ll hear dozens of people shouting “Casa de Cambio.” It feels extremely sketchy, but they’ll bring you inside a building where a few of their friends will be waiting to exchange pesos for dollars. As mentioned above, they give you a better exchange rate if you bring 100s instead of lower denominations. While it seems like it would be so easy to have the police come and crack down on this practice, it has been going on for at least a decade.
