How much is too much for booking NYC superday hotel?

Have a superday next week in NYC but firm is telling me to make bookings on my own & they will reimburse after. How much would be considered too much to pay for a hotel room? Any thoughts? Every hotel seems super expensive right now because of Christmas...

When is the interview (matters considering it is Christmas week)? What type of firm (small, big, banking)? Where is the interview (midtown?)?

As I said in another thread: - ask the company if they have recommendations or corporate rates - stick to major mid tier brand names (Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, Marriott, etc), avoid luxury brands (four seasons, ritz Carlton, the aman when it opens next year...) - find a hotel relatively close to the office - budget should be $200-300. I see plenty of hotels in that range next week. If it is a small firm you’ll probably want to stick to the lower end.
