How necessary is living in SF for entrepreneurs?

I want to start a business somewhere down the line but I’m not too keen on living in SF. With the ridiculous prices, homelessness, and leftist hive mind I really can’t see myself enjoying living there long term. Is it that necessary/advantageous to be there for a founder? I feel like 10-15 years ago the answer would be a resounding yes, but things are changing.

Literally not at all necessary.  The main reason people would go is access to engineering talent and because it was a great place for diversity of thought and people trying to start up with lean resources.  That latter two aspects of that environment have gone out the window thanks to their leadership (probably safe to say they still have the best talent pool).  You can find comparable places all over.  Salt Lake City, Dallas, Austin, Boston (also pretty expensive admittedly), Miami, and Atlanta are a few places that come to mind with established fast growing entrepreneurship communities.

Miami having an entreprenuership community is interesting. Wouldn't have guessed that and would love to live there for a few years
