How To Get Cheap (Or Free) Golf

As promised, I have decided to share my knowledge on getting free or cheap golf.

Country Clubs

Most country clubs and private courses are closed one day a week for maintenance. To get free golf I would recommend befriending one of the cart boys or other workers who can get you on the course free of charge on the maintenance day. This is normally the head pro's day off so nobody will bat an eye and there won't be anymore than ~10 golfers who go to play. If you know a member then be sure to utilize their free guest rounds. A lot of Country Clubs give their members 3-5 green fee reimbursements for their guests.

Public Courses

Public courses are a little more tricky but since most of us non-targets have the balls to crash a target ocr it should be no problem. A good trick is to start by befriending one of the clubhouse employees. These guys usually are 27-35 years old, making 12-14 dollars an hour, and could use a little bit of cash. If you slipped them 20 or 40 bucks they can put you on the course no problem. This is A LOT cheaper than paying full price of 60-120 dollars for 18 with a cart. This tactic can work at a country club too.

Coupons

Most public courses will sometimes have groupons or deals in the local newspapers. This saves some money and usually is for 2 golfers so have a friend in mind when buying. Booking a tee time through golfnow.com or one of their competitors can save you some cash and is convenient. I believe most of those sites allowing booking a tee time as a single so no group required. Coupon books at your local Dick's Sporting Goods, PGA superstore, Golfsmith, etc. are also very useful. Most of them are only 20-40 bucks and will have the majority of public and resort (and some private) courses in the state you live in.

Golf Balls

Buy a golf ball retriever that is fairly long so you can get free golf balls from the water. Nothing like free ProV1s.

BTW pm me or comment on here if you want something in particular to be the next topic. Probably will do another in the next 7-10 days if it garners enough interest.

Absolutely. People who are good friends with the staff tend to get away with free golf from time to time. Of course this is a lot harder to do at say Pebble or Bethpage.

Sometimes you can squeeze in 9 holes for free at the 5-6 o'clock mark during the summer as well. The starters tend to leave the course a little early and as a result no one will say anything if you just walk up to the tee box like a normal member would. This seems to work better at country clubs than public courses.

wouldn't it be easier to just go top ivy (think H/Y/P) --> top BB IBD (think GS/MS/JPM) -->top megafund and eventually join an top tier #1 elite country club....? (think cypress point, bighorn, augusta)

i am mastering keyboard shortcuts (think Ctrl+Shift+F6, Alt+Shift+F1) and think i am well on my way. still never remember to add back the depreciation tho

Augusta is pretty much only F100 C-Suite executives and famous politicians. You can't even play the course for a major portion of the year. Cypress is beyond insane to get a round on. I know 3 or 4 guys who have done it (pics are amazing from there) but you need to know a member and I don't believe they have carts. Pine Valley would be the Cypress of the East Coast. Bighorn can be played by anyone. That's like comparing Leonard Green to KKR!

As a guy who's stuck across the pond, these posts seem so alien to me. I'm content with my futbol. Or I could slip me self into Trump Aberdeen for a few putts... Thanks for these posts anyways!
