How to pivot from ER to a geopolitical role?

I am a current 1st year ER associate in the healthcare space who is starting to regret his choice of career - understanding the science behind pharmaceuticals bores me (I majored in econ in college). I can't see myself doing ER twenty years down the road, with the possible exception of energy but that's a dying field.

Due to my love for politics and current affairs, I am thinking about pivoting to a role more focused on geopolitics, whether it be at a think-tank or at a macro trading desk. Does anyone have any visibility on how you can pivot to these roles and what alternatives to consider? My personality isn't cut out for academia or politics.
