How to think and create content faster?
Title. In school, I have always taken a slow but steady approach to content creation. Basically go to OH and kiss up to what professors want and then craft my work to be resemblance of their desired opinions - a skill I'd reckon. But am wondering how I can get more proficient at typing and creating slides such that I am executing ideas (i.e. making actual slide content) rather than thinking about what would be visually appealing to my VP or the client. Cheers
Hi SpittingImage, the silence is deafening, sorry about that.... Any of the threads below helpful?
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
I have a feeling you won’t like my answer but here it is.
(i) time, (ii) experience and exposure and (iii) industry knowledge
(i) you cannot control
(ii) you can control… to a certain extent. The better you perform, the more control you have over your staffing (i.e., you can ask to be staffed on specific deals covering verticals you find interesting). Ask around for precedent materials and look at how information has been presented in the past. Every senior banker has quirks and specific ways they like to show things
(iii) this one is key. Have a pulse on the market. Read industry primers, equity research reports on big names. Set alerts for those names and stay on top of new filings, product lines, performance and any other meaningful developments
Slide design is probably one of the most challenging aspects of the job as it can’t be taught. Ultimately, you’ll need reps before you can fly through slides.
Thanks so much for the helpful tips! I wanted to follow up on (iii). I would appreciate it if you could provide detail on which sources you use for staying on top of the market. I find myself subscribed to newsletters, but that's about it. I come from a non-finance undergraduate background, so I need to know this very explicitly even though it is a dumb question for an A1. And also, do you just read these sources for consumption or do you actually incorporate new events into your content creation. What I mean by this is, say Grangier or some random company in Industrials is a public comp you're tracking, how do you skim for info in 10-K and 10-Q?
