HR Horror Stories (or bad experiences)

Per the subject line, what are some horror stories (or at least bad experiences) that revolve around experiences that you've had with HR? I've been with 4 companies in my career and I find it fascinating that having a stiff HR team can really bring down team morale. Whether its being stringent in general, being docked PTO for going to a doctor's appointment, restrictive policies regarding WFH that have little effect on productivity, etc., I never really understand why most HR teams don't try to be lubricators, instead of exacerbators, for company culture.
