I got 99 bananas but a peel ain't one
Last night I was in the car and one of my favorite beats roared through the speakers. Growing up in New York in the 80's when hip hop was fresh and new, you couldn't help but to know and love Rick Rubin. So I thought I would have some fun today and use my brief time at Wall Street Oasis as a paradigm for success, hard work, ambition and our other usual suspects.
You see, when I clicked on the site last night I had a grand total of 99 Silver Bananas and reveled in having listened to "99 Problems" only minutes before. Some of you guys might laugh at me for it, but when I first started posting here, I became so motivated by hitting the "Century Banana Mark" that I probably looked like some of you monkeys during the peak of recruiting season.
It seemed the impossible dream. After all, this was the pre-Bananatative Easing world...Silver had not yet bubbled up...Sugar prices were swinging wildly and I was dating a girl nicknamed Chiquita.
Young Midas the Monkey was still slipping from vines trying to get a grip on Wall Street Oasis.
Flash forward...last night
Realizing I was at the gates of my goal, Midas made a plan. A grandiose bum rush of the century mark with a witty homage to one of my favorite songs and a seemingly trivial goal...but then as it tends to do sometimes...reality bit my face.

Even something as simple as posting a topic is out of my hands. This would have driven me absolutely nuts in the past. You see I had to go make a comment this morning which put me over 100 Chiquitas of Silver.
Consider the irony. You live for the day. Then the day comes and you are not just indifferent, you are actually pissed...I wanted these things so bad, now they are spoiling my plans.
There's a lesson in there somewhere. I think.
The point is that I used to try to own life. Control my destiny. Be the captain of my ship.
Now I let life own me. I doubt I've ever been more free. Or ambitious. A seeming contradiction, making perfect sense to those logical enough to spend absolutely no time thinking about it.
Failing to Success
100 bananas is a ridiculous goal. But then again all goals and sacred cows, are. Ambition is vapid, achievement is useless...but ACHIEVING...
Is more priceless than a Mastercard commercial.

A wise man once said "It's not about the goal, but the journey you take to reach it. It does not matter how long it takes you to reach your destination, but each journey begins with a step and each step will slowly but surely take us to where we want to go, whether we directly control our path or let fate take us toward it."
And you're right, it's not about achievement, as resting on your laurels serves no purpose, it's about the trip since it's always more fun anyway.
Guys, I think that this (although it is a bit NSFW) would be a better comparison of the two.

Nothing like a bustie when the pole is dusty. Like dark beers myself. Founder's Breakfast Stout is a current favorite. Can't go wrong with any Russian Imperial Stout either. Yourself?
