I'm looking for a blog article on Ike Eisenhower
That was posted here a while ago. It talked about how Eisenhower was so good as his job that no one ever wanted to promote him, and that the first role we know him for (supreme allied commander of the European Theater) came when he was 51 years old.

I think you mean this? I believe it's a 4 part (or more) series, but this part talks about the 'missed opportunities'. Hope this helps
