Information / Rundown on the Hamptons and hot spots? Never been in my ~4 years in NYC and will be going later this summer.

Hi all,

I'm a first year Associate (4th year in NYC) at a bank. In a few weeks, I'll be going to stay at my friend's place in Southhampton(?) for the first time and I would love if I could just get a rundown of like popular bars, clubs, beaches, etc across Long Island so that I don't sound like an idiot.

I've been invited before by friends in the past, but I always had to cancel / turn it down because of work. Now, as a new ASO, I feel like I finally have time to really enjoy myself there and am 100% committed to going for the first time.

At this point though, as a 26 year old, I'm almost afraid to ask questions as it seems like all of my friends knows everything about the Hamptons and go all the time. I also keep seeing jokes online about places like "Surf Lodge" and just really feel out of the loop.

It's not that I'm looking for recommendations really, but moreso just trying to go into this with some base knowledge so I'm not confused 24/7 when someone recommends going to _____ for pre-dinner drinks or whatever. Like what are the hot bars these days? What does each portion of the Hamptons have that draw a specific type of crowd? Is Montauk "better" than Southhampton and vice versa?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Most of the summer crowd is also new since covid. Hotspots often change and there isn't really any established "scene", go wherever you hear is worth checking out. Past Southampton it's all the same, and Montauk I'd only go once to see the seals. Living in the city, clubs should be basic to even those that frequent le Bain. It's only 2-3hrs from Manhattan, don't overthink it and just enjoy getting out of the city while staying for free.

100% relax and try to be comfortable in your own skin. It would be worse to pretend like you've been there before and are a regular when you are not. Be authentic and say it's your first time out there and ask/see what people suggest. It will work out a lot better this way rather than acting like you're part local.

In the last few years, the differentiation between Southampton, Easthampton, Bridgehampton, Montauk or Sag Harbor has largely been blurred. All of these spots are so packed with wealth now that it's tough to say one is better or worse than the other. Even the old real estate adage that a house located south of the highway (Montauk Highway) was much more valuable than north of the highway has kind of become obsolete. Yes, there is still a slight pricing premium in some cases for being south of the highway, but no one actually cares. If you have a house in the Hamptons you're doing pretty well as it is.

Just get ready to massively overspend for the entire experience.

My friend and I went to Montauk for July 4. We went to Duane Reade at the NYC train station and they had these $0.99 24oz cans of Bud Light and we brought backpacks, so both got like 6-7 cans and paper bagged it the whole way on the train. We were meeting these girls, but by the time we showed up we were pretty sauced and the girls were pissed for some reason. I remember nothing about going out, just remember that at the end of the night we were banging on their door at the hotel room and they were either mad or asleep (not sure which) and we both passed out on the grass in front of a hotel. I vividly remember the sprinkler system coming on and in no time both of us were soaked and it was hilarious at the time.

Sorry I can't recommend more info, but would recommend 10/10.
