Investments in Russia. Opportunity?

Everybody is cutting ties with Russia due to their invasion. In my opinion, at the end, the invasion will stop and in 1-5 years or so Russia will get involved again in the global economy.

The fall of the ruble and the exit of some western businesses from the country could create the same scenario as the fall of the Soviet Union which oppened opportunities to invest into assets which later the western investors will aim to buy. So now we also have a variety of cheap assets and people who sell at a discount to prevent bankruptcies.

What's your view? Do you see the current situation of Russia as an opportunity?

Of course, it's even more riskier now due to fact that Russia doesn't need to keep face as a "democratic" country offering enough protection to foreign businesses and investments (although, the greater the risk - the greater the reward).

Have been thinking about this as well - more from the basis of who could buy these assets. Too soon IMO. Intelligence is saying this could take decades. Don't think Russia can afford to wait that long, but their sole decision-maker clearly isn't too rational.

I think the sanctions on both sides make it impossible for western companies to realize any profits from a sale, so many of these operations will just be wrapped up/written down to zero rather than sold. Also don't think Russia will be too friendly to foreign money trying to buy the smoldering remains unless you are a Chinese or Belarusian citizen.
