iPhone 4: The World's First Post-Hand-Held Device

I'm no "techie", but I've been using telephones and telephone-like devices for several years now and from my experience, holding the device in one's hand is all but absolutely essential to keeping it from falling on the ground mid-use. Many times I've thought to myself while conversing on my cellular telephone "should the holding of this device conflict with its functionality as a telephone, it would cease to serve its purpose as a portable means of interpersonal communication and be practically useless." This notion of mine has now been challenged by one Mr. Jobs, a peddler of phones that mustn't be held.

The commercial success of this release amid all the negative publicity and consumer reviews is mind boggling. Will Steve Jobs' arrogance ever wear through the goodwill of the Apple brand? I'm starting to feel like the man can just take a steamy hot shit in a shiny box with rounded edges and have people line up around the block to exchange a paycheck for it.

Steve Jobs' arrogance is what got Apple out of bankruptcy.

The band issue is a symptom of EVERY phone. Anti-Apple fanboys need to give it up. If it bothers you so much, go grab a $20 case.

FYI, I got my hands on one and tried emulating the problem in every way. Just wouldn't happen until I squeezed my hardest and even then I'd only get dropped bars, not complete signal loss.

Anybody in IB should be able to afford a fucking case instead of coming on a Banking forum and complaining about their phone.

i always liked having the option of using my phone without encasing it... i also just don't believe in wrapping my stuff up in plastic for protection,.

Yeah I agree with you there, but apparently it's a common issue with any phone. Even the 3GS.

Anyways, Steve Jobs says there is no issue and to "stay tuned". http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/27/steve-jobs-on-iphone-4-signal-issue…

I agree that if it comes up for you often, you should get it fixed, but I cant see it being widespread as I've tried EVERY way and I can't get it to lose the signal.

Call Apple and convince them to give you a free bumper. They don't cover the front or the back of the phone so you can still keep the Apple sexiness with no reception issues.

I used to share that belief, until I went home with a girl from my gym... You never want to hear a doctor say "freeze "and "burn" in the same sentence.

If buying a case is the solution then Steve Jobs is a super genius. Not only did he get you to drop $200 on a phone (which AT&T paid him handsomely for), he gets you to spend $30 on a bumper case (which he likely had manufactured for less than $2 all in) just to get the $200 purchase to work the way it was advertised. When I say 'advertised' I mean as in, Apple never mentioned having issues as well as dozens of photos from marketing campaigns that show both Steven himself and others holding the phone the "wrong way." Not to mention the whole intent of the metal band, as Steve pointed out himself in a press conference, was to increase reception quality.

I'm not a fan of Apple products one bit to begin with and the iPhone 4 is just a prime example why. A great marketing campaign for an arguably inferior product that people find 'revolutionary.' The only thing I even think is remotely nice about the iPhone is the new screen and even that is having issues and is virtually no better than any Super AMOLED screen on the market.

Their products are overrated. And yes, I do realize that half the people in this country sheepishly follow their every move and love every product but I also recall half the voters in this country voting for Obama and look what that got us.

For telling it like it is, bashing Apple and somehow working politics into the equation.

God, I love this forum!

In relation to the post above...why the fuck would you still have it if you seem to have such a problem with it. I think we can assume you could easily afford a blackberry, droid, etc. So go get one...

in relation to the quote above regarding the post above-er; sometimes it's just good to vent. anyway iPhone 4 prob still beats the piss out of those phones, bad reception and all. Damn you Jobs.

Iphone 4 is just playing catch up. At this rate it's next version will fail to even do that. EVO all the way, especially with the froyo andriod 2.2 OS coming soon. I don't understand why people are not talking more about it's 4g. Granted that it's still in limited cities, but by the end of the year all major cities are supposed to be 4g ready according to sprint. I know if apple had something that revolutionary, it would be blowing its horn, until we're all sick of hearing 4g. Remember how overly publicized their 3g crap was, when the technology had already been around for some time. But I guess there will always be apple loyalists, and it'll probably take some time, say 5 to 10 years before people start realizing that there are plenty of other devices that are better than iphone. Unless of course, apple can pick up the slack, and stop living off the fame of its first original iphone, and start stepping up to the competition.
