Is anyone else feeling like shit today?

Yesterday's verdict by the Supreme Court has taken a full day to set in, but wow, today I feel like shit. America has fundamentally shifted course to a route that may very well lead to its demise. 17% of our nation's GDP has been thrown into bureaucratic hands and will now be a heavy burden on taxpayers going forward. Quality care may be compromised, prices will be regulated and the system will become a typical government mess. Such as Social Security, welfare and other entitlement programs have failed, so will this, and the middle, upper-middle class will receive the shaft.

Today, I feel the heavy burden from the taxes I will be paying in the future for benefits I will never receive. The worst part is, that I feel as if there isn't much I can do. I'm ready to vote in Nov and today I requested Atlas Shrugged from the library to reread (glad to see that all 31 copies in the system were checked out).

I feel as if most of the monkeys on this community will be in the "Atlas" category, working hard to better themselves, all the while paying into a black-hole entitlement system that will never repay us for our work - in addition to our paychecks taking heavy hits, we will also be degraded by the media and community at large for our "greed."

Does anyone else feel this burden? What are you doing about it?

I lost patience for the far left in 2010. Now I have lost all patience for the far right.

What we need to have happen is for all of the extremists in this country who are convinced it is the end of the world for Obama to be in power to expatriate themselves (America is the most capitalist and libertarian country on earth that has an investable economy). Go to... where? China? Russia? I know, Europe! Maybe this imaginary time in US history when we were more libertarian?

I don't feel like shit. This is merely one of many rulings that has been supposed to trigger armageddon over the past 225 years. Stop whining, do your job, pay your taxes, vote, and if you still don't like this country, you can always expatriate.

Too much common sense in this post.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

See I agree with this- the world is not ending, and most people who express themselves have radical opinions. This is what US political issues stem from. People who use their minds on each individual issue, making an inform decision (not just towing the party line) never speak up. This gives the impression that the country is out of control.

Also, there is some breaking point in which brushing entitlement programs off as "whatever" leads us to a situation of being like Europe.

Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it.

What about the jews that fled continental europe in the years leading to WW2? Or Michael Burry/the other guys who predicted and publicized the downfall of the subprime mortgage market?

Isnt the world ending in a few months or some shit like that? Wouldnt that mean our country isn't a going concern and thus our governmental policies over the past several years would make perfect sense? Gotta think outside the box gents

well, looks like the mission really was impossible...

I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desart. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed: And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.

I'm referring to radical left or right arguments in American politics (i.e. the government is the end all be all, or the government is absolutely worthless) that either side simply molds to whatever issue is at hand (economy, healthcare, financial reform etc).
You mean "vocal, angry minorities on the far right and far left", not "sides", right?
Well stated. I'd like to do drinks and shoot the shit with you sometime. If you get a breather, let me know.
