This article places him 4th in all time tennis players behind Helen Hills Moody, Serena Williams, and Steffi Graf. However, this article makes the argument that he indeed is the GOAT of tennis.
So what about being the GOAT in terms of all sports, Federer has to have a spot fairly high. This article places Federer alongside Leo Messi, Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, and Tom Brady as the 15 most consistently successful modern athletes. Bleacher Report names Federer the 11th greatest athlete of all time, behind Tiger Woods, Bobby Orr, and Babe Ruth.

Greatest in terms of number of slams, but not greatest in terms of winning percentage of a number one ranked player. I think Borg has a much higher win percentage of about 93%. I believe Federer has around an 82% win rate in singles.
You can't be the "best" when you are ranked behind a woman in an athletic endeavor. Given the disputable but "talking point" stat that Johnny Mac said if Serena Williams played in the Men's league she would rank 300 means that Federer is the GOAT...at tennis. How can Serena be ranked above Federer when she would be ranked 300 currently if there were no gender divisions in sports.
Federer is most likely the GOAT in tennis at this point in time. The first article is just weird and the second one makes sense. Overall, I find it incredibly difficult to compare athletes across sports in order to rank them.
Even comparing the same sport across different eras is incredibly problematic. The NBA's huge shift to a 3 shooting league - Larry Bird averaged 1.9 3 point attempts per game for his career. Also, today's required dedication to exercise and nutrition has never been higher. I think a lot of great players from previous eras would not cut it today.

He is the greatest of all time in tennis for sure. He is definitely in the top of being the greatest in all sports. Not in terms of athleticism but in the term of dominance. Best argument for this is that he finished, in 23 straight grand slams, in semifinals or higher during his peak. He has won 86% of his matches in major tournaments. Not to mentioned winning 2 grand slams this year at 35 years old...

Are you serious? You'd put Federer as an athlete on the same level as Russ Westbrook, Lebron, Kobe, etc.? You're insane dude. No doubt he is a good athlete but as far as being at the top? No chance.
Huge Tiger fan here, but not sure how anyone can rank Tiger ahead of Fed at this point. Fed's had a long period of sustained excellence than Tiger, and has arguably been equally as dominant. In the .01% chance that Tiger resurrects his career and wins a couple more majors ala what Fed has been doing, then I think the comparison would be really close.
Comparison was really close in the 2000's. Now, not so much. I think Tiger Woods is like the Mike Tyson of golf. Both were absolutely enigmatic and miles above their competition in their prime but never reached the GOAT due to personal choices.

That Bleacher Report is all sorts of nonsense. The Telegraph putting Messi in the consistently successful athletes is... questionable (you can argue Spain and Germany have had more complete teams than Argentina since Messi's rise, but not winning a Copa America is inexcusable considering the squad Argentina has had).

Federer is competing against the big 4 constantly during what is a golden age in tennis, the next gen of young players is also forming and are very competitive (Raonic etc). He has to play these superhuman modern tennis types like Djok' and Murray (6'4" , wingspan covering 1/3 of baseline, faster, more conditioned etc) and he is still whooping people's ass.
Serena is great but the competition she faces is weak, no comparison
this only reinforces my point. the fact that for the past 24yrs she's literally owned everyone almost all the time, with a much better record than federer. it's like saying mayweather didn't fight heavyweight where there are more big names means he isn't a great fighter. youre painting a bullseye around your arrow. i could easily flip that argument and say that serena's game is so elevated beyond the competition it's uncanny...and if you look at her accomplishments you'll realize this is the case.
