Is There an Industry Where You Can Have Big Success That’s Not Location Dependent?

Certain careers basically force you to live in a specific zip code if you want to reach the top. If you want to be a successful singer or actor, you naturally head to Los Angeles. If you’re looking to build a tech startup, it’s San Francisco; for a major finance career, it’s New York. It feels like if you don’t move to one of these hubs, "big" success is incredibly hard to achieve. The only real counter-examples I can think of are content creation, where you can become a millionaire from literally anywhere, or building a successful local business. Outside of those, is it even possible to reach the pinnacle of an industry without being in the "right" city, or are we still tethered to these geographic gatekeepers? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Commercial Real Estate. It exists in every city (and many small towns even).

It's far easier to break into the industry in a gateway city, as that is where companies and investors naturally come together, but you can reach the pinnacle anywhere.
