I have friends in higher positions who say getting a VPN is one of the first things you have to do once you secure a job. But are employers really that interested in my private information and activity when I'm in an entry level position?
In my home country, nobody really uses it and their career are just fine.

I have 2 phones, company pays for theirs, I don't conduct business on my personal
ergo, no VPN necessary for me
the fear is that if you're getting investigated for something they can then look at your personal phone but if you never give them a reason to (as in never conducting business there) they have no jurisdiction
im not sure what you mean. if my employer ever asked about something I did online I'd deny it. workers right in the UK much stronger than the US.
I do use VPNs to an extent (watch NetFlix shows from different countries, anonymize my online footprint, etc).
For example, I use VPN for WSO and I also have a dummy email for all my social media accounts (Twitter, Reddit, etc). The VPN I use uses random IP addresses across US and Canada everytime I turn it on.
