It feels like we're forgetting something...

It seems like no one is interested in the industries that serve us the most: cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and food.

Having begun my sophomore year of college, I've met exactly zero people interested in joining any of these industries. Well, a few people I know want to be pharmacists but that's different from what I'm talking about.

What I am talking about, however, is this: money. And lots of it.

We all turn to technology in our pursuit of entrepreneurial happyness, but it seems as if we've completely ignored the wealth and public influence that could be attained from success in cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and food, especially if you managed to bring your own company to success. I mean seriously, these companies are gigantic and we use their products every single day. Startups are not the only option.

Like anything else, being successful in these industries is difficult, especially in "mature" sectors like those in question. The obstacles are high, but the rewards behind them are greater.

Chipotle and Chick-fil-a are recent examples of success, the two companies having transformed the nature of popular fast food with its own new rules, appearing seemingly out of nowhere and taking over a respectable share of the fast food market. Financially, they are nothing compared to a McDonald's or a CocaCola, but their success has shown that it's possible to break into this industry and make incredible profits. You guys, if anyone, could be the ones to do it, regardless of how many obstacles stand before you in that pursuit.

I understand that there are huge players to compete against in these industries, but with excellent products and even better execution, whoever can reach high enough might be on their way to an empire. It's up to you to go after it or not.

Oh, and for the companies that already exist, there's always the C-Suite.

I don't know that you have to spend any time worrying about it...that's how this whole "free market" thing works. At least for now, we're still free enough that any industry that's in a genuine shortage will do what it can to hire more people. I don't think we're at risk of starving to death anytime soon, or of running out of pharmaceuticals.

There's new companies all the time in all these industries, sure they're not sexy and splashed all over the news but that hardly means they don't exist.

You're probably also not going to see a lot of discussion about them on a site like this, just due to the predominant subject matter and given what most people are here for.

"shakespeare" I wasn't saying that there was a shortage of anything or anyone, but that there might be some interesting opportunities for growth in these industries.

You said nothing of substance.

You're young. You have a lot to learn.
