I like the Knicks bc of the social aspect of going to the games, buying beer/jerseys etc. I don't know anything about basketball but they're my favorite team.

It’s always great for the NBA and NY when Knicks are good. But man do I wish we had this quality of team back when we had Melo. That’s when I was a die hard fan. I watched nearly every game from 2009-2013. The league in general was really great to watch during those years too.

Now I don’t care so much for the NBA because the product is severly diminished from what it was just a decade ago (stars constantly sitting out, players always traveling/complaning for calls, virtually no defense being played in reg season, etc). I can barely give my undivided attention to one quarter of basketball.

I still think this team is missing a bonafide alpha star. Issue is there isn’t really one out there to be had. I heard the Shai rumors but is he really an upgrade over Brunson? We’ll see what Leon does.

W 2009-2013 take; the NBA was so much fun culturally and how the power dynamic was.

As a Thunder fan, I have to say that Shai is everything and more. I would absolutely hate if they traded him, but if he was to move to New York he'd become a megastar in fashion and following, much like the selling point was when trying to land LeBron in 2010.

The issue with the Knicks is they come in two years too late and spend big on an upper-B to mid-A player that's on the back-half of their prime and then the whole core blows up in their face.

I would definitely want Shai over Brunson if I were a Knicks fan. Unless Brunson balls out in playoffs this year I just don't see him as a guy that can be a top 2 player on contender. That being said Knicks are 2 stars away from being contenders in a loaded Eastern conference with Celtics and Bucks who are miles clear of them plus 76ers, although they might lose Harden in offseason so who knows where they end up. Julius Randle will be once again exposed in the playoffs unfortunately. I don't think the NBA "is better" if the Knicks are, this isn't the 90s. It's a stars dominated league - the Thunder were a popular team when they had KD/Russ/Harden. Markets don't matter and it has shown with the Knicks inability to sign any major free agent over the last few offseasons.

Shai is basically a top 10-15 player in this league so that take is obvious. Brunson IMO is a proven winner in the playoffs and continues to show that he plays winning basketball. Not sure about two stars, maybe we need a low tier 1A or 1B to pair with Brunson and Randle (Jimmy Butler or Jaylen Brown would honestly be enough). As a Knicks fan, I am not scared of the 76ers. Doc is and always has been a shitty coach and that team is set to choke in the playoffs. If Embiid is even slightly hurt, they are an easy first-round exit and Embiid would also be gone along with Harden. Add Embiid to this Knicks squad and we are immediately contenders...

And yeah... the NBA is better when the Knicks are good.

I was replying to Urban Mogul above who asked if Shai is really an upgrade over Brunson.... not aiming for hot takes here?

Jimmy Butler, Julius Randle, and Jalen Brunson are not a Big 3 that would scare any real contender in the NBA. You are delusional if you think that. Knicks fans have big heads now just like they did when they got bounced by Trae Young lol.

And no, no one gives a fuck if the Knicks are good. They won 2 NBA titles in the 70s and haven't even been to the NBA finals since 1999. The biggest stars they've had in this century are Carmelo Anthony (video game scorer but allergic to winning), washed Amare Stoudemire, and Jeremy Lin for 2 weeks. New Yorkers love to think the sports world revolves around them because the Yankees have 27 rings.

Preach. Knicks are where you go when you want your career to ride off into the sunset. Stoudemire, Lin, Kidd, Phil Jackson, Carmelo and plenty of others.
