What part of town will you be working in? Galleria, West End, Woodlands/Spring/Conroe, Katy/Tomball, Sugarland, etc, etc.

Not sure about the MS for just  asking questions about some place I DON''T LIVE IN BUT JUST HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE WITH. FUCK ME, RIGHT?! C'mon class, we're better and smarter than this. Come at me with something along the lines of "I thought you caught that they said energy corridor specifically, so it'd have to be a 'burb around there", etc instead of just "oh I'll just fling MS at them. That'll show them unlike an actual rationalized argument!"

Used to live in Galleria. Mind you this was a long time ago (2010). But feel like Galleria/Uptown was very safe when I was there. Decent night life and lots to do. You'd be actually commuting away from the traffic each way especially if you opt to go through Westheimer. Galleria will be more expensive though than energy corridor. Energy corridor is fine too but not a lot happening. Also depends on what your situation is, if your single, then maybe Galleria. If you're with a family, then Katy/Sugarland are decent areas.

Thank you for keeping me from popping off due to someone's random MS for simply asking questions. Sugarland is still a decent commute, but a nice suburb last time I was down there (2019). Katy would be closer, and still plenty to do around there. I bet a lot of OP's VPs and MDs live up the road in Tomball though. Cypress is a nice middle ground too. Nothing as crazy as Spring or Woodlands obviously.

Energy corridor is quite the commute from these areas but I second. Heights (hell of a commute) memorial park (this is a lot closer), Memorial city, Galleria/uptown, all aren’t bad areas. Houston isn’t a bad as ppl make it out to be, yeah there is crime but ur not gonna get shot or robbed walking to ur car, just use common sense and you’ll be good.

Traffic is absolute ass though, so I’d try to stay around ur job, if ur going from the heights, midtown, montrose, river oaks and even Galleria that can be an easy 35-40min commute in bumper to bumper traffic.

If you're young I'd try to stay inside the loop.  Heights probably the most fun, Washington avenue/Rice Military still fun but slightly better commute vs Heights, City Centre is going to be your best bet if you want to be close to work.  I'd avoid Katy until its time for kids.  Montrose is a personal favorite.

Spring Branch is on the come up, anecdotally I've got several late 20s/early 30s friends that have moved there to get a cheaper house. relatively easy drive to the fun stuff inside the loop, relatively easy drive to energy corridor and will be cheaper than other options I mentioned.

Current Houston banker— the Heights is the place to be. Lots to do, great places to eat, young crowd, and generally a safer area. I’d steer clear from Galleria and Midtown. These places constantly have theft and I have heard stories from coworkers that have lived there

The list goes on... Stockholm Syndrome should be renamed to account for what Houston does to people that were born there.

Edit: Sorry for hurting the feelings of the Houstonians in this thread.

Yeah I mean I think I could make a list just with cities in California, South Florida + the Acela Corridor. Also every other city in Texas > Houston. The list just writes itself

Close. But I'd say Austin and/or Denton are the absolute bottom of the barrel cities in TX , and Houston/Harris county  beats them both hands down.
