March Madness 2017
I saw an article about an MBA student from Booth who developed an app to provide sabermetrics and tips about teams and tournament history while filling out your bracket. It's geared towards helping people who haven't kept up with the college season or know little about basketball in general.
Who do you guys like for this year's tournament? I'm interested to see how Xavier does, given their great start but recent struggle. Duke has also had some weird losses in their past few games (Syracuse, Miami FL). Ohio State got bounced from both the tournament and the NIT, so it might be Matta's time to exit.
I'll definitely be watching a lot of the 5-12, 6-11, and 7-10 games. I'm eyeing Cincinnati, Maryland, and Louisville to get upset in the first round; I've heard that Rick Pitino is only good for about 15 seconds.
Pick Baylor to lose. It's definitely a longer shot than others but they typically fold in the tourney (bounced out in the first round the last two years as a 3 and a 5 seed).
Staying in the Big 12, Ok State is a very good team (they hired SFA's coach in the offseason) and while Michigan is playing well, the 10 seed will win imo. There are some sabermetrics that have OSU with the 2nd best offense in the country.
I've also got UNCW beating UVA, Nevada taking down ISU (you live and die by the three and today, ISU dies by it imo), and my big upset pick is Rhode Island to make it to the Sweet 16 (Creighton making a late run doesn't dismiss that their best players is done for the year, Oregon lost their best rim protector in the PAC tourney).
Did two brackets, in one (with way more upsets) the Zags win over UNC and Cincy and St. Mary's makes a run to the Elite 8. In the other I went largely chalk until later and I've Duke taking out Kentucky in the final.
Since you have Duke winning in your second bracket, I'm curious to hear what you think about their recent performance and their season in general (between media attention, Coach K's games out, etc.)
They always find a way. I don't really like Duke that much but Coach K is one of the GOATs and Jayson Tatum is a beast. I think that all of the drama around the team was costly for a time but it's made the team battle hardened and I expect them to be able to fight a lot harder due to the adversity they've already gone through.
Duke's recent performance of winning 4 games in a row in the ACC tournament.
Notre Dame's going far. Always a small white point guard in a late round
Well good luck with that because WVU is a whole different animal than Princeton.
At the same time, WVU didn't look that great against Bucknell.
I finished in the 98% last year but this year I don't feel good about it at all My final 4 is Gonzaga vs Nova, L'Ville vs Kentucky and I have the Zags beating L'Ville
Virginia Tech will win it all. You heard it here first.
With that said, my pics in brackets 1 and 2 are Duke and Kansas, respectively.
Well.. there goes the bracket. Thanks wisconsin.
They were definitely under-seeded, and of course my Hokies had to play them in round 1.
You guys put up a good fight though.. Right arround the 2 minute mark I felt like they had a shot to take it home.. But unfortunately the Badgers pulled away after that.
Current thoughts on 16/8/4/Championship? The Florida/Wisconsin game was unreal
