Microsoft outdid themselves with their first desktop computer

The Microsoft Surface Studio, Microsoft's first desktop computer, looks fascinating! Here's one of my personal favorite features that the author (who has been using one for two months) noted:

Just push down on the screen and it totally flattens out! Again, note how thin it is. And the hinges make it easy and oddly addictive to push up and down. There's basically no resistance. It's soooo satisfying... Pushed all the way down, the Surface Studio sits at a 20 degree angle, which is perfect for sketching and taking notes.

I know some of the features aren't necessary for everyone, and it may depend on what you use it for, but I'm completely intrigued. While I love the looks, maneuverability, and features, it'll require a deep pocket book as it starts at $2,999!

It looks like a lot of other people were just as intrigued as I am. According to another article, Microsoft may have outperformed their original estimate of Surface Studios shipped by about double in the first quarter they were available (Link).

What do you all think of it? Do any of you monkeys have one yet?

It is meant to compete with the iMac, but the price point to me is terrible. While it seems to be meant for people involved in digital arts / graphics, the specs are not justified. 6th Gen i5/7. NVIDIA 965/980 GPU, 1-2TB of HD space. I imagine most people would buy at mid model which is $3,500 - top of the line is $4,200. At those price points, you can get a platform that is FAR more capable with an even bigger screen capable of editing photos and video, and I imagine there is some sort of software to buy allowing you to draw shit if need be.

Don't know if their was a thread about this. I personally think it's awesome ever since I saw the ad for it. Definitely something that's aimed for the creative market, really glad Microsoft is actually creating productive hardware.

I agree, and while it's obviously pricey, I think they got off to a great start for their first ever desktop computer

That $2,999 price tag threw me off instantly.

Not to sound like a prick, but who is this for? what casual graphic designer can afford to drop 3-5 grand for this thing?

full disclosure i have a Surface 4 Pro and love it, and i am absolutely all for anyone who is out there eating apple's lunch, but as stated above there are better things to do with your money than spending it on a Microsoft vanity project.
