MLB: Is the punishment worth it?

For all you baseball fans out there - the MLB just handed down their punishment for the Astros stealing signs in 2017. The highlights are:

-AJ Hinch and Jeff Lunhow suspended for the year (Astros owner just fired both) -Fine of $5 million -Loss of 1st and 2nd round picks for next two years

Also rumored that the Red Sox may be in similar trouble. Ultimately, I have to ask though, does the average fan care if their team gets caught cheating to win a world series?

For reference, the Braves lost 13 prospects and their GM got banned for life with the international prospect cheating scandal. Not saying that the Braves punishment wasn't justified, but the Astros came out scot-free on this one.

Imagine giving up 4 prospects and a utilityman's salary for a year for a WS and MLB relevancy. Easiest trade in a heartbeat. Houston was a clown organization after the Oswalt-Berkman-Clemens and wasn't close to relevancy until 2017.

I agree that while the penalty was "apparently" harsh, it could have been a lot worse. As far as I know, no players were reprimanded for their actions. I assume that some of the players took part in the scandal as well. For me, cheating to win is a serious offense, as it taints baseball and the Astros reputation. I am not sure where this one stacks up compared to players using steroids or Pete Rose betting on baseball. For me, this issue is worse than Rose betting on baseball, as it diminishes the integrity of the game. I think the MLB should have sent an even stronger message with penalties. Perhaps, there should have been life time bans, or if the players were involved, they should have been fined and/suspended.

I know there are some people who will say it is not a big deal because other teams do the same thing and if the goal is to win, you should do anything to achieve the goal. I disagree. For me, if you have to cheat to win, it takes away from your accomplishment.

Edit: I just read that the players were granted immunity for their testimony.

1) Steroids should be legal 2) Let Pete Rose back in 3) Allow chewing tobbaco again
