Reminds me of the book “The Secret”. Lots of people worshipped that book. I think the fad has since faded a bit though.
What bothered me the most was that people would believe that positive energy and visualizing their success was all that was needed. Completely ignoring the hard work that was required.
What is the difference between believing this and believing in the big guy in the sky?
“I manifested” is such a self centered statement focused on the power of oneself.
"I manifested" means total self control of your world around you and either conciously or subconciously putting a string of acts into motion to cause the end result to happen. The "belief in the big guy in the sky" is faith and religion which is basically totally hands off and to use a turn of phrase, absolving yourself of any responsibility or reliability in the process. Totally different.
true
This is usually preceded or followed by the phrase "now let me show you my new crystals"
Yeah and exactly and talk about astrology and what's your sign and what time were you born....
this girl I was involved with was really into them and made me download this app that updated regularly based on the moon or whatever. Wild stuff.

I've met ppl who have used this in the context of having visualized their goals and worked towards them with positive energy and belief that they'll achieve said goal. That is good and fine and I like it. But yeah if one believes that manifesting is just visualizing a goal and shining positive energy to said goal without putting in the effort, then yeah it's dumb af. Obviously a large percentage of ppl who use the manifesting phrase tend to fall in the latter but figured we'd give a shout to those who use it in a realistic and hard-working way. To me, that former group operates a lot like I do but I just don't call it manifesting ever, I just call it crushing my objectives.
Great comment brother. There's a former SF guy named Nick Lavery who has a book called "Objective Secure". If you've ever seen a picture of a massive solider with one leg in full gear with a Red Sox hat, that's him. Similar to the whole Jocko discipline attitude, but Nick seems a lot more direct in a way. I guess maybe not as refined would be a way to put it, but I love it.
The dude would be viewed as legit crazy by most people - I view him as an example of what 100% dedication can result in. Set your objective and do everything in your power to achieve it.
One good thing about getting back on insta is being able to interact with dudes like this. I’ll DM him and he actually responds and talks back like a regular dude. Must get flooded with DM’s as he’s got 100k followers, but he’s about as real as it gets. The strong Boston accent and crazy eyes when he really gets going on something definitely doesn’t hurt either
Nick has always been a humble dude. Loved shooting the shit with him when I would catch him lifting at Bragg.
A girl I used to talk to, used to say this a lot. Drove me crazy. It is what it is.

Yeah, it's pretty cringe, but at the end of the day if "manifested" just means "I worked and got this by my own efforts" then it really isn't that bad. As someone downthread says, if you have to engage in this sort of self-misdirect as to the cause of your success, better to ascribe it to your own actions rather than some nebulous third party (e.g. "God helped me get this").
Turn on any press conference in politics, sports, entertainment, etc and you'll hear people thanking Jesus for giving them success without a hint of irony. Compared to that, "I manifested this" is a lot less cringe.
I told a waitress "I'd like to manifest a rum and coke"
She said, "I'm no fortune teller but I can see that in your future"
Then she brought me a delicious rum and coke.
lol
Equally cringe: "This is the genesis of [ ]"
"So...yeah...about your TPS reports..."
Still not as cringe as "thoughts and prayers" or "it's all god's plan"
Whats even more cringe is when women say "periodt" or "respectfully"
lol I've never heard of this before now
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Periodt
"That's the tea, sis, PERIODT 💅"
"Ummmm, like, respectfully dude your fit is just not giving right now.....!!!"
I'm convinced women my age are haram
