Move to a different city but keep same job at the same company?

Say you work at BofA in NYC for banking. Can you do the same job with BofA in Chicago through talking to HR and they just like transfer you over or something? Or is that not how it works and you have to apply like everyone else to the Chicago office and go through the whole interview process? Thanks
