My Pug is Dying

Hey everyone, As the title says, my pug is reaching the end of his life. He is the black pug in my profile picture. Not really looking for pity- I just want to know a few things. 1) How do you know when it’s time to put them down? Vet gave me a range but not hard indicators, despite me asking. We’re taking him in tomorrow to hopefully get a better assessment. 2) What can make his last day the best? I’m thinking of firing up some amazing steak for him. He is 13.5 years old (which is really old for a purebread) and has cancer. In the last 72 hours his tumor got much worse. He’s lethargic. We can’t operate for his cancer because of his age- vet said 50/50 he’ll have a couple extra months or die on the operating table. We opted to not gamble and give him a good last day.

Nothing to add, but I’m sorry to hear that. Dogs are such wonderful companions. A couple years ago our family Airedale had cancer (was about 14 years old). She was moving slowly and in pain, with a large tumor on her side that had grown quickly. We put her down as soon as we found out. Good luck.

Thanks Edifice . Sorry to hear about your dog. I agree- they’re the perfect companion. Had a bad day? They’re there to sit by you. Had a good day? They’re wagging their tail happy to see you.

I appreciate that BillMurray . Its a little bit easier for us knowing that he’s been spoiled his entire life. I am not joking, he has a memory foam type dog bed. You’re right though- it is part of life unfortunately. I’m happy I have had the time with him that he’s been here.

I appreciate the kind wishes everyone. He had an aggressive form of cancer and we all decided to put him down this morning. He was surrounded by my family and I, and we know he is in peace.

I appreciate that man. Although we're all sad about it, its good to know he is in a better place.
