Need Help ASAP

I don't want to come off as arrogant here. But I would consider myself an attractive male and I have some in-person coffee chats coming up. Should I try to flirt and or flex that I'm in a good frat to impress the women/men I'm networking with??

Flirting or flexing your fraternity status during networking is not the way to go. Based on the most helpful WSO content, keeping things professional is critical. Here’s why:

  1. Flirting Risks: Many women (and men) in finance view flirting in a professional setting as inappropriate and potentially off-putting. It can create discomfort and harm your reputation. As highlighted in WSO threads, even subtle flirtation can be seen as a "Risk" in the workplace. Instead, focus on building genuine, professional connections.

  2. Fraternity Flexing: While being in a good fraternity might be a point of shared interest with some, it’s not a universally impressive credential in professional networking. Instead of flexing, use your fraternity experience to highlight transferable skills like leadership, teamwork, or event organization.

  3. What to Do Instead:

    • Be Charismatic, Not Flirty: Show confidence and charm through your demeanor, not through flirtation. A friendly smile and engaging conversation go a long way.
    • Focus on Value: Demonstrate your interest in their career journey, ask thoughtful questions, and show genuine curiosity about their experiences.
    • Keep It Professional: Networking is about building long-term, professional relationships. Avoid anything that could be misinterpreted as unprofessional or self-serving.

Remember, the goal is to leave a lasting impression as a serious, career-driven individual—not as someone trying to impress with looks or social affiliations.

Bro good luck if this thought crossed your mind! Absolutely do not flirt in coffee chats, if you want to mention your fraternity do some DD on who you’re talking to. If they were in Greek life, mention it. If not, stay away from the topic altogether

When people in finance hear about u being in a frat they automatically picture you at 2am at a house party (this is true even for people who were in greek life who are now in finance) so unless you were the president or treasurer and have a SOLID leadership experience that gave you, wouldn’t mention it

Do it.
