Be ready for the shitshow - no matter how much you plan, you can't plan for it all. Take paternity leave, before I had kids I thought it was a joke but I wouldn't have it any other way now, spending that time with them and my wife was incredible. You will be exhausted, you will be annoyed, you will be snippy, take a walk outside or something to blow off steam before snapping at anyone (sounds basic, but you won't be in a good state to manage emotions).

It's hard as hell but also the most rewarding thing I've ever done. My priorities completely shifted and dealing with that is sometimes difficult.

You have a much greater appreciation for everything that you do and how it impacts others.

It's a wild ride, definitely find a support system.

How long did you get for paternity leave? A colleague a couple years back only took 1.5 weeks.. I think it has improved since then but nowhere near the 2-3 months at some US banks or consultants
