Starting this one early, and publicly, since i'm going to mexico tomorrow until 2nd week in jan. Booohoooo rich parents sob sob.
My NY Resolutions in no particular order:
Learn German (gf is german). Target goal, be able to have a normal conversation without assistance with someone. Awesome language even if we split.
Get in serious shape. (not turning this into a body building internet dickfest, so leaving numbers out). I'm in good shape already, but want to be in stellar form. I'm worth it. I have this quantified.
Start a career I really love OR go to top20 business school. Kinda done with what I do atm, I'm good at it, but its not for me.
Read more: Classics. Read the top 2 books by the top 6 thinkers of the classic era.
Get distractions OUT of my day to day. Have a to do list for tomorrow, written up each day ,and do it before I even think about turning on facebook or personal email.
Social: Spend more time with the friends that really matter to me (and family).
Start a side business with/without a friend. (yes we have an idea and are going at it already, have a timescale for launch included in this as well).

Floss Regularly
Keep a journal, write it before I start the day, this will replace my todo list entry above.
Aim high.
Seek discomfort
and live your damned life.

I'm not into the whole resolutions things, but I do make goals at the start of every year. Same basic concept, I've just always found the whole "resolution" thing sorta lame. Probably because everyone talks about them 24/7 and 90% of people don't do shit to make them reality (obviously most WSO'ers make theirs happen). Here's a quick overview of what some of my goals will be (obviously I have all of these quantified, but that's personal):
1) Go from good to amazing shape 2) take my poker game to the next level 3) become fluent in Italian 4) read more 5) crush the GMAT 6) start my job out on the right foot
I've always thought resolutions and goals were pretty much the same thing...?
I studied Russian for ~2 months in Kyrgyzstan, so take my advice with some salt. Russian is definitely more useful (maybe not in Business/Finance though) than Czech. It's also really challenging, but different from the kind of challenge that learning all of the subjunctive moods in Spanish is. At the beginner level, Russian is mostly just memorizing rules and how/when to apply them.
Nice. Yeah the main reason I'm considering Czech is because I already know a decent amount from spending a semester abroad over there and could see myself possibly returning one day for some time. The obvious downside is that there are so few speakers in the world, while Russia is enormous.
Actually try and not get wrapped up in work for an entire year. I tried this last year and it was going great for about 6 months, then I got thrust into a sale and started working again. I've gotten fed up with this work crap and will be trying to take an entire year off and do some traveling.
a few that come to mind: get 1000 loyal followers for my new blog/business and post up at least 50 pieces of quality content (blog or video posts) over the year be known as a latin america travel expert be known as a "digital nomad" expert live in 6 countries for a min. of 6 months & live in medellin colombia for 6 months learn to surf well enough so that i can say to the chicks "yeah, i surf" give a martial art a real shot (never tried one), thinking Brazilian jiu-jitsu but open to try others, Krav Maga? improve my spanish (from conversational fluency to actual fluency) continue to work on meditation & yoga
read 30 non-fiction books and 10 fiction books learn to cook several dishes in each country i live learn to salsa dance well so that i can say to the chicks "yeah, i salsa dance" marry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Colombia_2013 keep livin the dream

i haven't actually been, but have heard more than enough good stories, and know a few people there who can help me out. additionally, looking for a place to pass the hot summer - the weather is very predictable (city of eternal spring), beaches are a 2hr (or less flight) away, the cost of living very reasonable, and most importantly I guess, I want to live in Colombia and have already visited Bogota/Cartagena/Santa Marta but no desire to live in either of these places.
"Medellin is where it's at" - so they say, we will see :) and to answer your question of how I expect it to be different, once you're used to things down there colombia is HUGELY different from bsas, imo.
as to bsas, already lived there 2.5 years and plan to go back next summer, rio and/or florianopolis are on the list as well to live. beyond that would like to try living in cuzco peru, ushuaia patagonia, la paz or santa cruz bolivia, mancora peru, and salinas ecuador

Seems to be a lot of out of shape guys who want to go to B-school. Shocking. Good luck to all.
In no paricular order:
1) Get in shape. I weighed 230-235 when I played football in college. I got down to 205 my senior year of college after football. I gained a little back during training (having a 7 week paid vacation in NYC will do that to you), but now I'm pushing 250. Probably could stand to lose at least 30 lbs.
2) Get better at my job. While I was one of the higher rated analysts in my class, I wasn't the best. Great motivation going into the new year
3) Quit partying until 7am as much and move more towards boozy brunches. Decimating my sleep cycle each and every weekend renders me worthless most Mondays
4) Eat better. See number 1
and lastly...
5) Don't let the stress from work leave the office with me. It's just not worth worrying about everything that I have going on at the office when I'm not even in the office.

Mine: To be happy and enjoy the year.
1.) Learn Spanish fluently. I live in Honduras right now and while I know enough to survive and make a little small talk, I want to be able to have a full conversation. 2.) Apply and get accepted into a good school (undergrad). I'm in the military and finish up my contract later in 2014. 3.) Continue to hit the gym until I feel physically awesome. Then maintain that 4.) Save up as much money as possible. I might need some reserves while I'm a full time student if the gi bill can't cover all of my expenses. And the va will probably take forever to start paying my housing allowance. 5.) Continue taking online classes. It's free, and every A should help my case to be accepted into a good brick and mortar. They might even accept some transfer credits. 6.) Subscribe to either the WSJ or FT and read every day.
I'm already perfect.
Starting a 52 books in 52 weeks challenge. I'm pretty excited for it since my to-read list has started to overflow
