Newark to Singapore Nonstop
Longest flight in the world being reintroduced to EWR. Flight is so long that they have to keep special lockers to store bodies in case anyone dies because they fly over the Arctic circle and there are few, if any, possible stops.
Put near New York most likely for business travelers, know anyone who would or is going to take this flight?
If you were offered a job where you constantly had to fly this route or other long haul routes at least once a week doing international business/deals, would you take it if it was very prestigious and paid very well?
Thankfully out of Houston, we stop in California before the long haul.
I know now they’re launching nonstop to Sydney and they’ve had Dubai for a while. I don’t think it will cost you much more if you purposely book with a layover, in fact it may even cost less
Wouldn't want to take this flight. The business class seats for singapore airlines on the A350 that will fly this route don't even go completely lie flat I don't think. Check out the points guy article about it.
For a 19 hour flight that’s stupid
Damm I take 4-6 flights (17h+ non stop) every year in economy, which is almost as long as this.
I'm a college student though...
That’s crazy, where are you going that frequently as a college student?
I'm international so I head back home haha.. It's usually 4 times a year (roundtrip during the summer and roundtrip during december), but family emergencies and other one-off events have forced me to travel more during the year.
My strategy is to always fly red eye, pop a couple of melatonin pills and use a neck pillow.
That’s pretty nuts, I’m sure you get used to it though
You use melatonin pills and a neck pillow? Dude, you really need to upgrade to at least sleeping pills and indica edibles. Or just indica edibles.
Some people go to their Dr. for Ambien or something.
I don't usually take sleeping pills anymore, but for those long ass flights, my body seems to hurt more after the flight if I don't sleep for a little bit versus being awake for basically 30 hours. If I take sleeping pills, I'll usually get the 50mg gel and take one... wait like 20-40min to see the effects and then take possibly another 50mg (100mg total). I've taken lots lots more, but thats another story in a different place.
I brought some sleeping pills with me on a 16hr flight from LA to Melbourne this year, but ended up getting the whole middle row and claimed the middle after take off and went to sleep like it was a couch for about the best 6 hours of sleep I could possibly get on a plane.
I didn't need any pills that time, just had some food, used like 4 blankets and 4 seats and maxxed out the moment.
The previous EWR-SIN service was an A340 with only business-class seats. This route is on an A350 with 67 business class seats and 94 premium economy seats...why would anyone do premium economy for 19 hours straight? lol. wouldn't it be actually nicer anyway to break up the trip on top of probably being cheaper? I can't stand flights more than ~10 hours.
That’s what I was thinking. I would actually want to get out and walk around a little in London/Dubai/Los Angeles or wherever the plane lands for a change of scenery and a break from being in a plane. The 3 Hours the nonstop saves me probably doesn’t matter at all.
By the way, the flight is actually as much as $500 more expensive as opposed to flying with layovers.
I assume I can do a 8 hours sleep and I can sleep almost everywhere so long that my back is well positioned. Filling all that time requires internet connection and battery for the whole route. Inability to move freely can a hinderance after 10 hours regardless, once a week, in the short term is a massive hit. In the long term you get used. It's not like the average hostess doesn't fly that much every week.
Speaking of which, they might as well provide some extra service if I'm going to be stuck all that time up there, I need to do some physical activity one way or another.
The project name is 'Sunrise' by Qantas. They're planning to fly from Sydney to New York, London, Paris, Cape Town and Rio and potentially use either the B777-8x or A350ULR.
Honestly it's a good plan for both leisure and business travellers considering currently to get to London you have to stop in Perth/Dubai/Singapore and total journey time is well over 20h. Only concern would be ticket cost because neither plane has the range to make it with traditional seating and would have to a switch to a business heavy configuration. This'll make the plane lighter to extend range but the per-seat cost will increase.
With how planes are always changing it’s going to happen sooner or later.
