Stair master has to be one of the easiest seeming ways to get that HR up to threshold. And the steps fit my clown feet.

what's the verdict on stair masters? Not as good as running probably but I personally hate running so I'd rather do this (and swimming and biking).
Stairmaster is much easier on the joints than running. With running, you are limited by the amount of impact your body can take. With the stairmaster you can basically achieve the same cardiovascular effect and are only limited by your quads, Achilles, and cardiovascular system and lungs.
