Personally, I didn't want to work the 80-90+ hours on a weekly basis. Yes, the idea of building financial models, supporting M&A and other various transaction activities sounded intriguing...the hours were not worth it. So I decided on corp finance and even that has a lot of hours.
Regarding interviews, just told them the same thing I said above.
I agree with you, Alpha. That's what made CF for me attractive as well. I did interview at a few MM IB firms though, but couldn't justify the hours for only slightly better pay. The offer from a boutique IB was only slightly more than the CF gig for many 80 hour weeks.
In my interview, I simply said I wanted to combine technical skills from finance and quant skills from chem to assist in maximizing the company's value.
At the end of the day, the skill sets are very different. All depends on what you want to do and what you enjoy. I've enjoyed corp finance and it is way more than just some journal entries (I do 2...click and done). I've been able to support strategy initiatives such as cost cutting and sales planning; but will also be able to support deals too. But again, to each their own.
I want to introduce myself. I'm a junior at a west coast school and I just signed with a tech company for their finance rotation program as an intern.
I kind of want to discuss what are the good rotations to go into. I just heard word that I will be working in Internal Audit for the summer. Can anyone tell me more about this division and whether or not I will get a good experience? Or, how I can leverage this to get into other rotations during full time? I sort of wanted to do a business finance where I could model out profit and loss, but I didn't get to choose for the internship.

Curious as to why everyone here chose corp fin as opposed to IB or Consulting. What did you say in your interviews when asked that?

Agree completely.
