On the Casting Couch

No not that kind of casting couch action, I’m talking about Andrew Ross Sorkin’s Too big to fail movie adaptation here.

After a long and much speculated casting, HBO has finally released it final cast sheet and a lot of big names are in the lineup, Shalhoub, Giamatti, Woods, but I feel that more than a few is a little off. I mean come on, Billy Crudup as Geithner? and Topher Grace is in it?

Anyway, here’s the list for you guys to tear apart:

  • Paul Giamatti as Ben Bernanke
  • Topher Grace as Jim Wilkinson
  • Ed Asner as Warren Buffett
  • Tony Shalhoub as John Mack
  • James Woods as Dick Fuld
  • Dan Hedaya as Barney Frank
  • Cynthia Nixon as Michele Davis
  • Michael O’Keefe as Chris Flowers
  • Ayad Akhtar as Neel Kashkari
  • Kathy Baker as Wendy Paulson
  • Billy Crudup as Timothy Geithner
  • Joey Slotnick as Dan Jester
  • William Hurt as Henry Paulson

Curiously absent are 3 names; Blankfein, Dimon, and Thain, so I guess they haven’t been cast yet.

Who are your choices to play these guys?

Here's mine:

Lloyd Blankfein

Dude, Stephen Colbert as Thain would be EPIC!

I like the Eddie Jemison for Blankfein idea.

I would pay to see Colbert as John Thain provided he could still keep his commitment to the Report.

Honestly, I am really torn with this as a movie. I agree with your call on Wallace Shaw. He's a great underrated actor. I could also see Turbo Timmeh played by Gary Oldman. I don't know why, but Drexel Spivey would be a great addition to this cast.

@ Frieds and SF, Colbert would be absolutely epic for sure and I don't think he'd have any problems doing it, hasn't he been on a few movies lately? I remember he was in a cartoon... I could just imagine him lording over the people at ML as if it was his "nation". Haha

@Cartwright, yeah dude that's Peter MacNicol, one of my picks as well but I'm not 100% he'd pull it off.
