It’s not I swear… it’s just that as somebody with a long reverence for Britain and its two premier universities, I’m confused why Cambridge is never regarded as the single most prestigious/famous university in the world, at least online.

Just search on google with quotes “most prestigious university in the world” or “most famous university in the world” and out of hundreds of results they will only direct to Harvard half of the time and Oxford half of the time… where is Cambridge?!?!

Well for what reason should it be Cambridge?

Whenever Oxbridge are described as equal or more prestigious institutions than their HYPSM counterparts by people online, they are either always mentioned together (Oxford and/or Cambridge), or it’s just Oxford that is mentioned singularly. Why is Cambridge never mentioned singularly?

On TikTok especially I notice that people, when trying to refute Harvard’s status as the most prestigious university in the world, almost always use only Oxford as the counterexample. Occasionally they use “Oxford and/or Cambridge” as counterexamples together, but they never use Cambridge by itself as the main/sole counterexample. Why is that?
