I’m an MD and I would definitely have a laugh and mock if someone put cum GPA on their resume

Cum jokes don’t get old

I interviewed somebody once for an intern position (so it was understandable if the interviewees weren't polished, but supposedly HR had whittled 20+ applicants down to just three for us) and one guy went on for 20 minutes about how he was a black belt in karate.  We laughed about it for days.  We actually almost gave him the position for the entertainment value when we found out that we probably wouldn't have a full-time role to offer at the end of the internship.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Why is that funny, I get that it’s weird if it’s unprompted but if he’s got a genuine passion it could be interesting.

When you bring up an interest of yours, it’s polite to be brief and let the other person ask probing questions if they want to know more and make that the key focus of the conversation. If you just ramble on about trains for 20 minutes, that’s socially awkward.
