Police: 'Bored' Oklahoma teens randomly kill Australian student

Whats wrong with these guys...

A rural Oklahoma shooting has drawn widespread attention in Australia after a visiting student was randomly shot and killed by "bored" teenagers looking for a target, police said.

Chris Lane, 22, a baseball player on scholarship with East Central University, was reportedly shot in the back Friday while jogging in the small town of Duncan in southern Oklahoma. Lane, a catcher, was from Melbourne, Australia.

Three teens, ages 15, 16 and 17, saw him running by and followed him in a car before shooting him, Duncan police Chief Danny Ford told the Associated Press.

Unfortunately, they are underage, so they won't get the death penalty. Probably get juvenile jail sentence with early parole on good behavior. Sad country we live in.

Normally, I am against the death penalty, however in situations like this and as I grow older, I just don't give a shit. Zap 'em. Even his mom seems like an idiot. Her comments are so cavalier about him "getting in trouble" that it doesn't even seem she fathoms what he's done or been involved in.

"Jennifer Luna, whose son reportedly is one of the suspects, told ABC in Australia that she didn't think he was involved.

"I know in my heart that he did not pull the trigger but if he had anything to do with it, yes he does need to be punished," she said. "I don't believe he needs a life sentence or a death penalty. That's my baby boy. It would kill me if my son got that kind of sentence."

Um, these comments actually seem pretty level-headed and part for any parent's course. I understand your username, but hopefully one day your teenage angst subsides.

A) I was referring the quote further down the article (listed below), which I actually quoted in my initial post. B) From what I've read, it is confirmed that he did pull the trigger. Plus the wording of this quote just seems strange: "He didn't act no different than any other day. Every kid likes to fight but as far as getting in trouble, he's never been in trouble."

What the hell is she talking about? Her kid shot someone and she categorizes it as "getting in trouble", as if shop lifting, fighting at school or an MIP are the same kind of trouble as killing somone.

And as for your last comment, it is completely unfounded and asinine.

Capital punishment has never been a better idea. The government needs a secret department that operates around the law to help taxpayers save money when issues like this arises.

Yeah, I'm sure adding a department would cost equal or more than paying for every single aspect of hundreds of people's lives for up to 70 years. Great reasoning!

You probably should mention that these teens from Oklahoma are going to be tried as adults.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

@FormerHornetDriver Obama probably ignored this story. After all, if they were white they would probably be innocent, right Obama?

I saw this and it is incredibly sad. I think the only thing sadder is we will spending tax money paying for them for the next 50-60 years when that money could be spent on people trying to improve themselves or contribute to society.

@WalMartShopper: To further clarify, I'm not saying that what this parent said is completely wrong for them to think. However, her trying to vindicate her son of this heinous crime is an affront to the parents of Lane, especially given that the grounds for killing him were "boredom".

Why is this story not on CNN 24/7? Why are riots not erupting in the streets? Where is the public outcry?

...over what?

To avoid any diplomatic repercussions, just extradite these three punks to Australia & hand feed them to the crocodiles.

@Scandal

Honestly, it really upsets me that Obama, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Oprah, Condoleezza Rice, have all said nothing about this incident, but where so persistent on speaking out about their opinions on the Martin case. It's downright wrong, and rather pathetic.

Obama has the nerve to say if he had a son, it would look like Martin. What about the kids who just murdered for fun because they envied the rappers and thug life? One of the kids even tweeted days prior he was looking to kill someone. Murder is terrible but when murdering "for fun" that really is worse.

Stick these kids in the chair and make an example of them. All three of them, don't care if they are white, black, green, or blue.

@yeahright

Agree - in the end, everyone favors their own race/ethnicity and are more willing to turn a blind eye. Unfortunate but true. The fact that they're so outspoken gives them a louder voice, so it's a double-edged sword; if they're adamant about one direction (e.g. Trayvon), they should be equally as adamant and outspoken the other way around.

The murdering for fun is ridiculous - don't know if this was a product of their environment, but eh...you can only change these things slowly, if at all.

Calm down.

@yeahright @scandal

A few years back there was a scandal in my city when group of 13-18 year old black kids beat the crap out of a white high school kid as part of a gang initiation ritual. It happened in a nice part of town during daylight. When the kids turned themselves in, they basically said "we enjoyed it".

As a result, police stepped up their patrols and the city passed an ordinance that basically allowed the cops to stop anyone they wanted to and the city enacted a curfew for kids under 18. Neighbors started looking out for each other and people became more vigilant. There had always been robberies every now and then in the area but since this beating occurred, I have not heard about much crime happening.

Moral of the story: It is up to local governments and the citizens of a city to make it better. Relying on national news sensationalize an event only creates race wars and cannon fodder for the talking heads in the media.

Honestly what needs to be done is they need to have their fingers cut off one at a time on national TV. Then they need to have their hands cut off one at a time. Then have murderer tattooed on their forehead and then tossed out to live on a street corner. They cant work with out hands. By having murderer tattooed on their forehead they wont be able to beg for money and will slowly starve to death. We can chain them up to a pole so people can enjoy watching them wither away.
