So Business Insider did an article about the schools who rank highest on their "work hard, play hard"-o-meter. I see my school up there, proudly reppin'-- but some of these rankings seem a little odd. Cornell at #8? MIT at #2? Because I don't actually go to those schools I can't accurately comment, but from what I hear around the grapevine it should be a little different. Not surprising to see Dartmouth up there though, because what else is there to do in Hanover aside from studying and raging?
My favorite quote comes from a Yale student:
"There are all types of parties here, from 'parties' that are really just people sitting on a couch getting to know each other and having simple fun to hardcore parties with lots of dancing, alcohol, loud music, and tons of people," one freshman explained. "There's something for everyone."Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but if what makes a party hardcore is some alcohol and dancing, then I'm definitely trying to hit up some parties in New Haven.

mit parties pretty hard. harvard kids frequently go there to party.
Don't know why you're getting MS'd, lots of college students in and around Boston go to MIT parties.
From what I hear from some high school friends, most of MIT doesn't party that hard. Apparently they have the only frat houses/frat row in Boston so that's why people go.
UT-Austin should be #1 for UT Round-Up alone.
It's more in the semi-targets where you start seeing real partying, especially ones with a strong greek system.

Wow this list is actually ridiculous. The top work-hard play hard schools are easily the flagship state schools: UNC, Michigan, Wisconsin, UVA, Texas, etc. A Friday night at Yale has nothing on a gameday in Ann Arbor, Madison or Austin.
my thoughts exactly. The top schools should mos def be like UCLA, USC, UNC, UVA, UT, & UMich. The list is garbage, being from Houston I know for a fact Rice is the opposite of a party school.

I know that this isn't in America. But University of Western Ontario - Ivey HBA is the top undergrad Canadian school for IBanking and Consulting and ranked the #4 party school in North America by Playboy. Their undergrad business is great, the rest of it sucks though.

I think Ivey is similar to the top state schools in the US (UMich, UVA, UCB) - solid recruiting and an excellent social scene.
Course it's fucking cold in Canada.
My dad went there for B-School and took me on tour. They have underground tunnels connecting buildings so you don't have to step outside in the winter, :)
Playboy rankings for the win. Based on my graduation year, I attended two of the top 3 party schools - CU Boulder and UIUC. After a long stint in NYC working with a bunch of target school grads, I can assure that they had a different experience. My best friends in NYC all wanted to go back to Big 10 game days and were generally blown away when we did so.
My question to the UIUC student in the article "If a student wanted to go out every day of the week at UIUC they could," one student said." Ummmm...you didn't go out every night? Ok.
So there is a list that ranks places where drinking and dancing is considered more cool, wow weee, good job.
They got some of this list right, with the big public schools and private places like Vanderbilt, Colgate, and Dartmouth. Somehow they left out Duke.
But yeah, overall this list is really shitty. I've been to Columbia, and I can confirm that they absolutely do not deserve to be on this list, unless you spend your entire time out in the city. Cornell is also pretty bad . And CMU? NYU?

This ranking might not be perfect but if you think UVA, UMich or UTAustin come anywhere close to MIT on the work hard scale, you are out of your mind.
can attest to UVA, but only if you're in a frat. everyone is pretty pretentious and narpy, but also decently well off, so the parties are pretty nice
Was that really your experience with UVA? I knew plenty of kids who weren't in Greek Life who still could hang with the best of them. I just feel like the Corner lends itself to all sorts of revelry .
not saying they can't hang, just that your options are much more limited. I didn't go there, but have been to frat parties, athlete parties, and GDI parties, the frat ones by far are the best
Dartmouth and Cornell should be flipped, just from the sheer number of options and Slope Day alone. Cornell and Penn #FTW tho.

THIS....William and Mary is as about as dumpy as it gets when it comes to partying. The girls aren't that dope, the police presence sucks, and Williamsburg is full of old people who support draconian measures to ensure that no one can ever have any fun (e.g. not allowing more than 3 unrelated people to live in house together because of a brothel law in place from the 17th century).
I like how Dartmouth ranks 4th but their party scene is the lowest score of the list with a B. The ranking is arbitrary - it's just a list of schools, you'll find partying at every school you go to.
Cornell!? HA! That must be a joke! Known more for suicide than partying. Never saw a hot girl there and very few cute ones. Syracuse should be on the list. It is a target for Big 4 firms and semi-target for front office IBD/S&T and is consistently in the top 10 party list by Princeton Review.
