Are pe firms trying to create ib divisions? if so, which pe firms have been growing their ib practices internally or by acquiring.

Lots small IB add PE fund. Even a few law firms have VC fund. However, PE are not going to add IB arms soon. Here item from Rueters on item and please post some good example of PE building IB group.

Depends on what you mean by "IB" - both Apollo and Cerberus have capital markets operations
As does KKR; there have been some banks upset with them recently because they are paying themselves underwriting fees as they spin out their portfolio companies.
