i'm applying next year with a target entry in fall 2014. i've already communicated this to management, and they're really cool about it.

Money Never Sleeps? More like Money Never SUCKS amirite?!?!?!?

It also helps to have long-view of your career niche, and how it is mutually beneficial to what the B-school stands for and if your presence nurtures the pool of admitted students in the same way they can potentially nurture you as you progress through the program.

But then again, what do I know...

Baby you're the perfect shape, baby you're the perfect weight. Treat me like my birthday, I want it this way and I want it that way. It makes a man feel good baby.

With regards to B-school, can you clarify the statement 'ideally, you want to be able to discuss the situation openly with your higher ups'.

Am I wrong in assuming that your superior has already known way ahead of time that you were leaving to attend b-school (ie. when he wrote you recommendation letters)? My assumption comes from my understanding that b-schools require at least one of the recommendation letters to be from your superiors.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Not necessarily. Business schools generally say something along the lines of, "We would like one of your letters to be from your current / most recent supervisor, but will understand if that's not possible in your current circumstances, and will accept a suitable replacement."

It would be significantly more difficult to go through the whole process without the support of your boss, not just for finding another letter writer, but also for taking time off to visit / interview places, sneaking in some essay writing on a slow day, getting advice and perspective on different places, etc. I personally lucked out in this respect when I was applying and could be completely open from beginning to end, but I also know that there are plenty of people who are successful getting where they want to go even keeping the whole thing under wraps.
