Random people around you suddenly become successful

have you guys ever witnessed some random people around you suddenly become super successful, either in absolute or relative measure.

I used to have a guy teaching me advanced math outside the school. He taught me for about a month. He was young and intelligent, but kind of neardy. For years, I've never heard anything from him. As a matter of fact, I dont even remember him...Until one day, he posted on his social media site that he started a bitcoin/quantum related firm that was valued at tens of millions of dollars. And now, he travels frequently to sillcon valley and is even named in a forbes ranking.
