Ranking watch brands
Trying to get a sense of the quality and reputation of watch brands.
I'm certainly not an expert, so I'm actually looking for suggestions.

Career Resources
I would change your "super elite" category to include the likes of AP, Patek, a Lange Sohne, etc.. A new category to include Rolex, Omega, IWC, Blancpain, Cartier, & some Breitling (I have a love hate relationship with them). I don't believe Tag would fit into this category. I love watches, but trying to rank them is just an exercise in futility, wear whatever watch you like. I own a few different higher end pieces and still wear my Seiko SKX007 every weekend.
Ranking by brand is kinda dumb. Iwc and Cartier both make way more complicated stuff than AP if you consider most people just have a royal oak without any complications. If you're ranking by brand tho vacheron>>>>>
I have 2 Fossil watches, does that count?
only if you wear both at the same time
one on each wrist
NYC time and London time ... you'll be very worldly
Ranking Movado, Tissot and Alpina as Elite is a bit of joke. $800 for anything in the category does not qualify as elite..
you need jesus and a fitbit
no, just jesus
fitbit not required for entrance to heaven.
well then get a pedometer on your phone cause god dont like fatsos
Please god get Armani watches out of any list you're making. What about Hamilton or Shinola???
You can put apple watches (non sport version) on par or above citizen and seiko.
I don't know whether this is serious... Seiko is actually a very respectable watch brand that manufactures its own movements, while an Apple watch is more of a gadget than an actual watch.
Seriously depends on which version you get and how you accessorize it.
Apple watch > Everything
Timex > Apple watch
Someone on another site put together an EXTREMELY comprehensive ranking of just about every watch brand that's out there (link posted below). As much as I would love for us to have our own ranking, why repeat what's already been done?

Armani? Really? Please man. Super Elite: Lange, Patek, Mb&F, RM Elite: Rolex, AP, Hublot, JLC Upper tier fine: Omega, Panerai, Breitling, TH, Cartier Lower tier fine: Bulova etc. Shameful: Daniel Wellington, Armani and all this kind of brand
I would put AP, Hublot, and JLC above Rolex without a doubt ( I have and have owned multiple Rolex watches, so I am not being biased). Some of their complications are masterpieces. I would also put Tag Heuer in a lower category.
Agreeing bro
I hate this site sometimes

Buying a brand-name used watch in NYC (Originally Posted: 04/03/2014)
All,
Can anyone provide recommendations of where to buy nice brand name used watches (actual watches, not fakes) in NYC? Looking for watches in the ~1-3k range, so nothing super high end. I've heard of European Watch Co in Boston and am hoping to find something similar in NYC.
Thanks
Tourneau is probably the most well known place here but it is wildly overpriced, so I wouldn't buy there without pricing things elsewhere first. I bought a used Cartier Roadster there and it came to 5k without the extra leather band and clasp. I ended up returning it since they hadn't even sent it to Cartier to be serviced before selling it.
I bought a replace Roadster from "Right Time" which is based in CO but has a great online selection. I called them and spoke with them and they were able to tell me the exact numbers for how well the watch kept time and the results of their testing on it. Also it was 3,600 total and did come with the extra leather band and clasp (which alone is around 1k to purchase after the fact).
I've not been into any stores in NY that weren't selling at a premium.
