Roles in Singapore or Jakarta (for westerners)

Background - non-target, was able to break into internship program at a top NYC BB, and then directly into buy side research (AM) after school. made associate after a couple of years

Situation - I desperately want to find a role in Singapore or Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur (understanding that these are three extremely different markets). I have traveled extensively throughout Indo and the Malay archipelago generally, and speak conversational bahasa / malay, generally well enough to impress local people, including professionals. My goal would be to land a job in one of these markets, continue to improve my language skills, and continue to explore this beautiful slice of the globe.

Question - I am looking for advice from other westerners (non-local background) that have successfully found a role in one of these three markets. I understand that since the financial markets are generally smaller and less developed, there might be less of an opportunity for equity research, so I am very open to consulting or any other opportunities. Honestly I don't know what areas have opportunities for westerners. In Indonesia/Malaysia it seems like the jobs are generally saved for locals, and the visa process is incredibly cumbersome. Teaching english generally seems like the only option. Singapore seems more of an open market, but also much more competitive.

Any advice from others who have made the move would be appreciated.
