Romney wins Iowa, Santorum in 2nd, Paul in 3rd
The votes are in...and the winner of the Iowa caucus is Mitt Romney by literally the hair on his balls. Santorum came in an extremely close 2nd and Paul was a little behind Santorum.

- Bachmann
- Huntsman
With Ron Paul coming in 3rd place, what does that mean for his election? He was supposed to have the most power and traction in Iowa. Does he still have a legitimate chance?
Romney will likely take NH next week. With that, he will be the clear favorite and have the most momentum heading into the important southern states (Florida, SC)
What about Santorum though? Is he a serious candidate? Will he fizzle out after Iowa?
Perry and Bachmann are expected to drop out of the race soon. So what are your thoughts guys?
Romney won by 8 votes...wtf. Santorum is absolutely not a serious candidate, he just surged extremely late and peaked at the right time, no one that voted for him has any idea who he even is. Once he gets vetted over the next few days, he will crumble. I think Romney gets the nomination and is the 2012 version of Kerry, absolutely no one is excited about this guy getting to the White House.
If Romney takes the White House is there anyway his first two years in office could possibly be as awesome, eye opening, or life altering as his time at HBS?

Paul would have won had he attacked Santorum.
Santorum's only chance is a strong showing South Carolina. Then he'll probably try go with Romney, because he won't last past that primary. So, it's down to Romney and Paul. Who would've thought?
Does anyone have a legitimate chance? While I agree that Paul is the better choice, he clearly could not win the nomination. That leaves Romney, Obama's wet dream.
At this point romney has it bagged all he has to do it show up
Should we fund a clown to run against Obama for the dem ticket? That would be a pretty fair battle.
Still hoping Dr. Paul can take South Carolina.
Let's face it Romney most likely wins the nomination and Obama gets reelected.
I'm not sure why so many people think this election race is a done deal. Iowa, in no way represents the rest of the nation. JeffSkilling, you are wrong...people in Iowa know who Santorum is and they voted for him because of it. The guy spent the time to drive around in his pickup truck to meet people...which is exactly what people in Iowa are looking for. They are also very religious and conservative which falls right into Santorum's wheelhouse.
I don't think Santorum will do very well in NH but it's possible given his finish in Iowa and he will probably do decent in SC, which will determine whether or not he continues on into FL. I think Gingrich might do well in NH and in SC and in FL. Perry will bomb in NH and maybe do okay in SC but not well enough to justify him staying in for FL, which is a very expensive market to campaign in. After the first few states, people start reevaluating their choices and instead of voting for the person they want the most, they will vote for the one they like the most from the few front runners.

Have you not been following the race? We cycled through a ton of shit candidates (Bachmann,Cain,Perry, Gingrich, and now Santorum) who were all flavor of the week and as soon as they got vetted by the media/other candidates and people realized they were batshit crazy/stupid their poll numbers tanked. Santorum just got lucky and didn't become flavor of the week till the very end and there was no time to vet him. Also helped that CNN and most of the MSM shamelessly pimped this guy for a week before the caucus, also he got a lot of Evangelical pastor support in the final days as well as the GOP establishment pushing him behind closed doors so as to prevent Paul from winning.
What's most ironic is that pundits kept saying that Iowa would become irrelevant if Paul won, now that they essentially gave Santorum 1st I don't see how Iowa has any credibility left.
The liberal media is salivating over the prospect of a santorum nomination. They will continue to pimp him up as an "authentic" conservative who connects well with working-class Americans. They are doing this because they know that Obama will rape him in the general election while he will have a tough time against Romney.
I was in Iowa from the 27th up until the 4th to help the Ron Paul campaign. My thought on the results:
I am overall pretty satisfied with them.
The third place finish was close and hard fought for. I worked the hardest I ever have for that week, usually working 11-13 hours.
Santorum finished well partially because western Iowa is ultra-conservative and he had Van der Platts endorsement.
The acceptance of Ron's message has grown enormously since 2008, when he only won 9% of the vote. Considering he got 22%, I'd say he has become far more accepted in the mainstream.
He still has the best ground game of any candidate and is the only one who a big Christmas break event where 200+ people came to Iowa to help the campaign.
