Sajid Javid Stepping down - Banking career

For those interested in UK politics, Sajid Javid, Conservative MP is standing down at the next election. Not completely surprising as quite a few MPs in Tory seats are jumping ship now before potential wipeout at the next election. Javid was an influential figure, ran for leader 3 times and held positions such as Chancellor and Health Secretary. Read somewhere that he worked at JPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bank (in emerging markets and credit) and made it to MD and executive board member in the late 1990's-early 2000's; worked across NYC, Latin America, London and Singapore. Anyone worked for/directly under him? Seems pretty cool and also a trend for ex-bankers to step into British Politics, most notably current PM Rishi Sunak having spent time in Goldman's Private Equity group before joining TCI Hedge Fund.

I've met a few through some different firms, not Sajid per se but people you'd of heard of. More recently, we've had a prominent Tory, a lot more famous than Sajid, come in to  host some talks in the office. He speaks about the macro picture and geopolitics, and he can talk for days, seemingly without taking a breath. One interesting thing he said was, even though he fought tooth and nail in the commons with the opposition, they'd often meet for coffee immediately after and chat about the policies they were putting forth amicably.

That sounds very interesting, I agree that the House of Commons is a bit more theatrical and tribal than most of politics is, certainly with policy areas like you mention involving a lot more amicability than anticipated. I wonder if this person you're on about was a certain Matt Hancock! ;)

Think George Osborne is also a senior partner at Robey Warshaw, a boutique Investment Bank, think they were involved in the Chelsea deal this year, primarily since Osborne is a massive Chelsea fan and obviously has the contacts

There's such a revolving door between the city and the government in the UK its kinda mad. Probably more so than the US since the UK is so centralised around London and financial/professional services is the only real industry here

Yeah but only really if you rise to senior office like PM or Chancellor. Most MPs are obscure and will remain that way.
