Second US Lockdown?

Given second lockdown announcements in the EU and Britain, do you think we will see another lockdown in the US given where cases and test positivity rates are trending? Obviously a lot hinges on the election Tuesday.

Churches where I live are open, although capacity has been reduced iirc

Depends on your definition of lockdown. Should we be packing bars, restaurants, stadiums without masks, etc?  No.   The problem we continue to have is that half of the US thinks COVID is no big deal and as a result, cases have risen to record levels. Dr. Fauci has given us an honest assessment of the situation and I believe him.  The administration will not coordinate a national strategy other than to work with drug companies to produce a vaccine.  We have been experiencing a crisis since March and we do not have the leadership who will take charge and help us get through it.  In 2008, at the peak of the financial crisis, multiple presidents as well as congress and the federal reserve all worked together to get us out of the mess.  That is what leadership look like!

Which half are you referring to? Where I live libs and conservatives ignore guidelines equally. What I will say is that in more rural areas it’s harder to see masks but considering COVID case rates in these areas I’m not worried. Your last line makes no sense. I asked you previously what exactly Obama did besides the stimulus and you failed to back anything up.

Not where I live.  It is mostly the liberals who follow the recommend protocol.  Trump had a rally in my part of the US this weekend and the vast majority of people were not wearing masks and they were sitting/standing very close to each other.

I don't think anything national is coming anytime soon. Lockdowns made sense the first time, now it's just a sign of an absurd lack of imagination.

The crucial thing missing is testing. Most people aren't being tested more than once every few months. You need people to be able to test daily or every other day to get back to normal. Not those overkill PCR tests, the simple ones that take 15 mins. Sure they are not as accurate but if you have to quarantine two days before taking another one and don't leave the house until you are in the clear that would be a huge incremental improvement.

I think the issue with masks is that they only really make much of a difference indoors. Who cares if people are wearing masks on the streets, if they are hanging out at their buddy's place indoors, that's a much, much riskier situation.
