Significant Other Moving In Temporarily

Hi,

Not sure if anyone has had experience with this before, but I am moving to NYC this summer with some roommates for FT. My significant other is interning in NYC for 10 weeks. Can I just allow my significant other to stay with me for the 10 week period or is this something that I have to get her somehow on the lease?

I was reading up on adding new tenants to a lease, and at least read about how you can try to put someone as basically "a child" or some category like that where that individual has limited rights but is allowed to live there with you.

Thing is I don't want to have to put my significant other and have to pay more money year-round when it's only for a summer.

The hell, dude? This isn't China. You'll be OK. As long as she doesn't start receiving mail regularly or start a yoga gym in your living room, it's all good.

Are you gay? Who the fuck says significant other?

JeremyLinMVPPut her in as a child and have a separate child table for her, that's what the real ballers do

Soros-style swag.

In all seriousness, strikes me as pretty disrespectful of the roommates to not get their pre approval.

Yeah, you definitely need to get approval from roommates. And for that length, the two of you should be assuming a greater share of the rent.

If your rent is $3200/month, you have your own bedroom, and you have one roommate, you and she really count as 1.5 people. You should pay $1920 instead of $1600; your roommate will pay $320/month less to put up with waiting an extra 15 minutes for the shower every few mornings.

If you sleep on the sofa or in a common area, you and she really count as two people and should cover an even greater share of the rent, since now the roommate has to work around an extra person when deciding when to turn the TV off.

The problem won't be the landlord. It will be the roommates. If you invited your gf to stay with you for ten weeks and I was always waiting for her to finish a shower and she was always going to sleep at 8 PM when I wanted to watch TV, and she didn't want to pay part of the rent or at least help keep the apartment looking nice, I'd find a lawyer and get her evicted. Sorry; I'm a New Yorker.

THIS. NOT TO MENTION THE EXTERNAL COSTS OF YOU AND YOUR GIRLFRIEND FUCKING AT 4 AM, HOGGING THE TV TO WATCH A MOVIE, MAKING THE BATHROOM INTO A HUGE SHITSTORM, ETC.

You are going to come home early one night and she is going to be nailed her MD

Whats the matter? Scared of my little red fuzzy anus? Don't be shy,let me show you the way, give me your hand and I will take you to paradise

I agree with IlliniProgrammer, you should ask your roommates prior you get her to your apartment. You should ask her to pay or pay by yourself the equal contribution for all the expenses.
